The EU Graduates Fund
Working with the EU Graduates Fund
Howard Guinness was a young man of great vision and infectious enthusiasm. He was instrumental in the formation of evangelical student groups in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia early this century.
In 1930, he motivated students at Sydney University to form the Evangelical Union. The EU has continued to offer Christ to the University and nurture young Christian men and women for over 60 years.
The Howard Guinness Project is an initiative of the SUEU Graduates Fund which continues the pioneering vision of its namesake. This fund is financially supported by EU graduates, friends and parents.
The project desires to give participants an experience of real ministry while receiving real training. To this end, the Project offers an apprenticeship-style program within the SUEU context. Project staff join the EU staff team and work in partnership with EU members. It involves serving others to influence them towards Christ and maturity in him. It involves weekly training in biblical ministry. It includes guided reflection on the experience and ministry wisdom from older, more experienced staff.
However the Project offers much more than ministry experience. Participants often find that their whole perspective and direction in life is changed through their time with us. They grow significantly in their confidence and capacity to impact others for the glory of God.
A recent participant has said of the program:
I treasure my time with the EU staff team. Such a hands on experience gave me a deeper grasp of the gospel and its place in people's lives. I greatly value the opportunity to learn and stretch myself, to discover and develop my gifts in Christian service.
So far, over 50 people have benefited from the program and are now either training for full-time ministry or actively involved in ministries ranging from pastoral leadership to student work.
