The EU Graduates Fund
Applying to work with the EU
We are looking for men and women who:
- will be godly examples to the students,
- have a solid grasp of the gospel of Christ and an understanding of basic Christian doctrine,
- have a basic ability to teach and lead others,
- are able to relate well to students.
Potential HGP trainees may be:
- People who are intending to enter full-time ministry and who would benefit from a two year apprenticeship before embarking on theological education. The two years provides an ideal context to get a feel for ministry and to help formulate final decisions on particular avenues of service or even suitability for full-time ministry.
- New university graduates seeking to continue in ministry they have already been doing as students in a more intensive way.
- People who have graduated some time ago and are now seeking further ministry experience and training to equip them for long-term unpaid ministry in local churches or other contexts.
The Process
The normal process, from initial interest to working on campus, for someone to become an HGP trainee is:
- June-August:
It is usual for potential applicants to arrange an informal appointment with the EU Graduates Fund Personnel Director as the first step in the process. - August-September:
Application forms are completed and sent to the personnel director (see contact details below). - Late September-Early October:
Referees consulted. Applicants are interviewed by a panel of senior staff and a student. - Late October:
Recommendations for appointments are made to the Graduates Fund Board for decision and applicants are notified. The General Council of the EU is asked by the staff team leaders to ratify the appointments. - November-January:
New staff raise support from personal networks as appointed (but not-yet-paid) staff of the EU Graduates Fund. - Mid January:
Orientation for new staff begins, regular staff meetings begin, the whole EU staff team raise support from new graduates. - Late February:
EU's ministry training conference, "Runway" and contacting of new students at O'Week.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I do HGP part-time?
It is possible to do the HGP part-time. Usually this will be a self-funded arrangement with a minimum of 3 days available for the HGP. - Will I be required to raise prayer and financial support?
Yes. After appointments are made in October, new HGP staff are required to raise 75% of their salary from personal networks before commencement of work on campus in February. We have found that most HGP staff do not have any difficulty in doing this. Christians are far more willing to invest in worthwhile gospel work than we imagine. The team also spends much of January and early February raising support from new graduates. We consider this to be an aspect of ministry training. - What do HGP staff do in university holidays?
HGP staff have 6 weeks annual leave. In University holidays they are engaged in a number of projects such as writing training materials and bible studies, support raising, preparing materials for conferences, reading and planning. - Do I need to change churches to do HGP?
No. HGP participants are expected to be active and regular members of their churches. However it is difficult to have significant ministry responsibilities in a local church AND do the HGP so we generally warn potential participants against over-committing themselves.
