The EU Graduates Fund

History

The Sydney University Evangelical Union was created in 1930 and has under God's faithful care flourished as a student Christian group over the last 75 years. For the detailed history of the EU see the EU's history page.

The EU Graduates Fund however, has a much more recent history. While the EU had always had friends and advisors from outside the Union, the idea of forming a fund, financed by graduates and dedicated to providing staff for the SUEU, was hatched in 1989 by the then President Andrew Katay and Treasurer Michael Jensen as they swapped notes in a Greek class.

The Fund was created in 1990 and the first staff worker, Alan Lukabyo employed in 1991 as the first full-time Graduates Fund staffworker, serving the SUEU while also being trained in ministry.

Since then the EU Graduates Fund has experienced significant growth, both in staff numbers and financial support. Throughout the years the original vision for genuine partnership in the gospel between students and staff has been developed and maintained.

Since 1990, over 50 people have served as trainee staff workers with the Graduates Fund.

These include: Alan Lukabyo, Mark Williamson, Ruth Lukabyo (Holland), Careena Street (Barratt), Paul O'Brien, Bec Crosweller, Steve Crain, Ruth Holt, Jenny Kemp (Simpson), Steve Calder, Emma Reid, Mark Rundle, Michael Littlefair, Anthony Douglas, Yvette McDonald, Beth McKay, Belinda Miller (Hays), Brendan Jones, Mattheson Russell, Julia King (Gow), Tim Johnson, Fiona Clare (Cockerill), Geoff Lin, Anna Patrick (Manojlovic), Murray Smith, Miriam Andrews (Webb), Deb Hare (Maddox), Emma Britton (Murphy), Jessica Smith (Carroll), Hamish Balnaves, Rosemary Guy, Marty Kemp, Angela Cook, Stephen Hare, Catherine Hintz, Anita Pidgeon, Katrina Bell, Katrina Beringer, Jacque Bronger, Clive Lam, Murray Bunton, Duncan Andrews, Christian Anderson, Vera Chong, Charles Dale, Martin Feltham, Stephen Gardner, Lisa Mah, Melissa Manwaring (Yager), Tim Pedley, Sarah Thompson, Toby Anderson, Mary-Grace Anderson, Anthea Broadfoot...
